Kos in November

I don’t think they’ve heard of something like winter on the Greek islands. Even in November we found lots of flowers and butterflies on the small and friendly island of Kos. Consequently other insects and even agamas were still crawling around.  Temperatures were perfect for a nice walk along the coast or a boattrip to the volcanic Island of Nisyros. Quite amazing and beautiful, the gigantic crater of this active volcano. And what a surprise to find a very blue paintbrush in the middle of nowhere!
All in all a very good start of what, till now, seems to be a mild winter in Europe…

Vancouver Island

The first week of august I found myself in the good company of my son to have some quality time in and around Vancouver  (Vancouver Island and Whistler). The weather was great for boat- and nature trips.
On the island were forests and logs everywhere: along the roads, on trucks and in the water, amazing! Because of the warm weather, wild life like bears and cougars were probably taking a nap in the cool woods. We were glad to see a single deer, a bald eagle and some cute otters splashing about.
Food in this area  is nothing to complain about: fresh wild salmon, crab, scallops and oysters.  Add some wine and good conversation and the holiday delights are complete!

La douce France and Rothko river

When my brother and I were young, our parents used to take us to France on holiday, since they were francophiles. This June my husband and I returned to France, beau pays de mon enfance ;-).

Since we love a fresh breeze, we spent quite some time in areas as the Camargue, the high Pyrenees, Arcachon and Bretagne. The result was a lovely holiday in which we experienced great views and an abundance of springflora and -fauna.
Highlights were the great plains and the flamingos of the Camargue, the fantastic views in the Pyrenees and last but not least the "Rothko" river (last picture), which was very inspiring to me!

Malaga!

For us –living in the South of Holland-,  the beautiful old town of Malaga is only a few hours flying and it brings you into a completely different world. Even in early spring the weather is lovely and people tend to live outside. Most tourists are so friendly as to go to the beaches of Torremolinos and the rest of the Costa del Sol.
So in Malaga you’ll find yourself among the locals grilling fish on the beach or taking a stroll in the old town and visiting one of the majestic catholic churches.  Catholicism and its rituals are very much alive in Malaga. Apart from the enthustiastic screaming parakeets, it’s a peaceful and friendly place, especially in the parks and in the spacious botanic garden. I hope to pass on some of this special atmosphere…   Enjoy!

Valencia and gridpic

To the inspiring example of the great artist David Hockney and his Polaroid compositions and photographic collages, I’ve been experimenting with what I would call: watching in rhythms.
Whilst playing with objects and arranging parts of the compostion, different angles can be used. The result is often interesting and helps to have a closer look at the contents than what we would normally do.
Very handy that my smart son developed an app which is quite useful for this purpose:
The Calatrava buildings and the old town of Valencia (and the Mercado), we recently visited, were beautiful stuff for my experiments. I think the result of the Swiss mountains is quite interesting too.
If you want to brighten up your room or office you could gmail me… Have fun!
