The Deep South

Thanks to my husband, who had this fantasy about going to America’s “Deep South”, we found ourselves for several weeks in nature reserves in the Gulf of Mexico states: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana (where we also had a nice family meeting in New Orleans).
Because of the spring season in these coastal areas in March and April, mother nature was very good to us and treated us abundantly: fresh green & springwater, flowers & butterflies, (wading!)birds & their offspring, reptiles in all sorts & sizes and of course: dragonflies! And to our great pleasure: hardly any people ;-).
But the people we met were very friendly and we are the park rangers extremely grateful for the many nature preserves and wildlife services we enjoyed!
For the first time I used a macrolens to try and capture the subtleties and nice details of flowers and dragonflies (see: Great blue skimmer), but it’s not going to be my cup of tea.
I think there are more interesting ways to make a worthwhile impression of nature in all its beauty, but, judge for yourself ;-)

Eastern amberwing (Perithemis tenera)

Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)

Brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)

Gray petaltail (Tachopteryx thoreyi)

Bluejacket (Tradescantia ohiensis)

Emeralda Marsh FL

Great blue skimmer (Libellula vibrans)

Raccoon (Procyon lotor)
Eastern tiger swallowtail

Blue Hole Spring, Itchetucknee park FL

Common green darner (Anax junius)

Purple pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea)

Tricolored heron (Egretta tricolor)

White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
